Sealants

A dental sealant is a material placed to help shield out decay-causing bacteria from the chewing surfaces of the back teeth.

Sealant materials form a protective barrier by bonding to tooth surfaces and covering natural depressions and grooves in the teeth. Deep grooves in the biting surface make it a bit harder to keep your teeth clean and can lead to cavities, so filling in these grooves can definitely help prevent this from happening! Depending on your chewing pattern, the sealant effect can last many for years. Our sealants contain and release fluoride to further protect teeth from decay. We often recommend sealants for children as their permanent molars erupt in order to prevent future decay. This process is pain free and requires no anesthetic, so children typically respond very well to this preventative treatment! Adults with deeper grooves on the biting surfaces of their molar teeth can benefit from this treatment as well!
